One of the most relevant pieces of advice in the Bible comes from Jesus Christ Himself: “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble” (Matthew 6:34, NKJV). This advice, filled with wisdom and understanding, remains relevant, especially when we consider the lives and experiences of our beloved veterans.
Veterans, individuals who have borne witness to and endured the harsh realities of conflict, understand better than most the uncertainties and anxieties that can come from contemplating tomorrow. They have stood at the precipice of the unknown, staring down the uncertain path of tomorrow, yet, they moved forward, bolstered by duty and a courage that defies comprehension.
Jesus’ Assurance for Tomorrow
Our human tendency is to worry about what lies ahead, Jesus Christ offers comforting guidance. His counsel is not merely to overlook the concerns of the future but rather to understand that each day carries its own trials. By focusing our energy and faith in God on the present day, we become capable of truly living each moment to its fullest.
Jesus assures us of God’s unending care for us. In Matthew 6:26 (NKJV), He says, “Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” This promise is of particular importance to our veterans, reminding them that even in their moments of doubt or struggle, they are not forgotten or uncared for.
Standing Strong with Faith
Veterans often face unique challenges in transitioning back to civilian life. In times of struggle or uncertainty, the Word of God can provide comfort and guidance. 2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV), states “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” Through their service, veterans have demonstrated their power and love for their nation; in their faith, they can find a sound mind, letting go of worries about tomorrow and instead trusting in the love and guidance of the Lord.
Trusting in Him can be a challenge at times. Psalms 62:8 says “Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. We must stand strong and let God be our refuge and lean on Jesus when we feel tomorrow is unknown and it creates anxiety.
Navigating the Future Together
As we navigate our futures, we must remember to stand with our veterans, providing them the support they need, much as they have stood to protect us. Hebrews 13:5 (NKJV) reinforces this sentiment as it says, “Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.'”
In the face of life’s uncertainties and the worries of tomorrow, let’s gather strength from Jesus’ teachings. Let us remember to embrace the present, trust in God’s providence, and extend our hands in support and understanding to those around us, particularly our esteemed veterans. Our collective faith and love can guide us towards a future where we walk side by side, unburdened by the worries of tomorrow, and uplifted by the assurance of God’s enduring care.
